"From the mountains of North Carolina
and Atlanta, Georgia --
CULLOWHEE!"

That's the introduction we heard from the audience for more than ten years as we followed this band around the country. Cullowhee -- six of the most talented musicians performing anywhere.

What's their musical style? You name it. Everything from country ballads to rock and roll, to parodies, to jazz, to blues, to reggae, to dixieland and back again. The best part? Just about everything you hear on stage was written by these guys. And how many six-piece bands do you hear with five lead singers?

Cullowhee has a tremendous and loyal group of fans. Louisville, Kentucky, in particular, took Cullowhee to their hearts; they played to standing room whenever they came to town.

In Atlanta, they held forth mostly from the Steak and Ale in Tucker. Night after night, weekdays as well as weekends, they packed them in.

Versatility? How about six guys playing twenty+ instruments?!?

And just to show you the kind of people they are, once every month or so they hosted a free kids show. Kids don't hear much live music (at least music with words you can understand) and these Saturdays were great fun.

Our daughter was introduced to the Band when she was six or seven years old. She actually had her 10th birthday party in "the pit" at the Steak and Ale -- and Cullowhee let her write the set list! Amazing! And when we took the ten little girls home and they told their parents that they had a wonderful time at Krisytn's birthdaty party because "it was fun! We went to a bar!"...

Wally White introduced us to Cullowhee. We owe him the deepest thanks for years of otherwise-missed enjoyment, both of the Cullowhee music and the friendship of the Band. Thanks, Wally.

On September 27, 2008, Cullowhee (the band) brought Mountain Rock back to Cullowhee (the town) in their first reunion concert in many years. The concert was held at Coulter Auditorium Music Recital Hall on the campus of Western Carolina University.

And, on September 26, 2009 and September 18, 2010, Cullowhee (the band) did it again!

Cullowhee fan Winston Whitlock built a terrific short video of the guys and "Peace on the Mountain" on YouTube by clicking HERE!

The ticket!

On September 27, 2008, Cullowhee (the band) brought Mountain Rock back to Cullowhee (the town) in their first reunion concert in many years. The concert was held at Coulter Auditorium Music Recital Hall on the campus of Western Carolina University.

This reunion performance of the Cullowhee Band was a fundraising event for the Cullowhee Revitalization Endeavor - a non-profit group that is focused on bringing new vitality to the town area known as "Old Cullowhee" along the Tuckaseegee River. You can learn more about the revitalization efforts by visiting www.gocullowhee.org

The show was fantastic and the full-house audience was so enthusiastic and appreciative! It was such great fun to get together with the Band and their fans again and hear their songs. The additional benefit was to provide funds to renew and improve the town of Cullowhee where the band was started.

CDs and DVDs are availabe; click the appropriate link at the top of this page.

The Origins

Terry, Mike and Sandy met at Western Carolina University (in Cullowhee, NC; get it?) where they performed at the drop of a hat. Here's how they looked then:

(I've always wondered how Mike kept that hat up...)

What about NOW?

For the past few years, Cullowhee has performed at reunion concerts in Atlanta, Sylva, NC and Louisville.

Here are a couple of (bad) photos from the 1999 Reunion concert in Sylva, NC:

The guys got together in 2001 for Terry's 50th birthday (a surprise). Click HERE to see it.
